The Position of Poverty

Galbraith talks about poverty in many forms in this reading. It was a little hard and difficult to understand, but his main ideas where some what more clear. He explains case poverty to be seen in a society or in an individual based on the persons own characteristics. For example, this can relate to people who choose not to work. He also explains insular poverty where a community suffers from poverty as a whole depending on the area they live in. Their surroundings don’t have much to offer to these people from work to production, so they have nothing to do. He explains how society ignores that there is poverty around and tries to hide the fact that some people are so poor. This should be an issue that everyone should work together to fix. From the lowest to highest class of people. The only people that can fix the problem of poverty are the people of that community. Many things come back to economy but we should work together to help better and fix our economy. We should bring business to one another and try to find jobs for the unemployed. This is truly a big issue today especially in the state of Michigan. Our economy is so bad that we actually have increased our poverty rates. There are many unemployed people with families to take off and no jobs at hand. Even though the United States is one of the wealthiest and most powerful countries in the world the economy of some of its states have decreased enormously.
